Every story gets started with a pilot episode. Let's make this one a good one, eh? Week one is done! Okay, I've been here for a little longer than a week, but if we are counting full weeks this is the first one. It has been pretty uneventful. I've thrown and read something pretty much every single day, and starting Tuesday I have made a little horse head. Check them out below! They are getting better every day, and will continue to do so. (Those little suckers take a lot longer than you'd think. I'm a slow worker, but hey, I get the job done.) Now that I look at these, I realize that they look like my drawings brought to life. It is funny how the brain translates an idea. I've been reading books on how to start and successfully run a 'crafty business' and it makes me feel like I'm back in school in my business/marketing classes. Not that that is a bad thing, but it was not what I wanted to start my summer off with. At least I'm still in that mindset! Etsy has come up with Lisa as a possibility, so maybe in the near future I will have an account set up. My homework was to stalk a couple ceramicists who have their work for sale to see what their policies and such were. Still working on that, but as far as I can tell, Etsy selling is pretty legitimate stuff. If I was smart I would hop on that band wagon.
I've slacked and did not get the chance to learn about anyone who works in clay, but I did listen to a couple episodes of The Sculptor's Funeral podcast (http://www.thesculptorsfuneral.com/) where I learned about tips/tricks on clay and a bit about art history. The show is hosted by Jason Arkles and is geared towards figurative sculptors, but it's a good show for any art kid (or adult). I highly recommend that you give it a listen. For future posts, I don't think I will give a recap of the week. Instead, I'll just write about something that happened. I've been staring at my computer trying to decide what to write, and all of this seems forced somehow. I just want to share how excited I am to work and get better, and all that jazz. Maybe it'll just be a picture blog instead! We shall see...and on that note, I will leave you with a couple pictures of work, and my semi-messy work station.
