Handles suck when you're still figuring things out, just saying. I've been working with clay for a little over a year now and I finally made handles that I am completely happy with. TADA!
The secret to these handles? Patience. I suck at waiting. But over the past two weeks, I have learned that I have to wait and do other things, otherwise I will never get anything done because things will not work out. I am the multitasking queen now. Pull the handle, let it set up, go trim some mugs. Throw some mugs, let them sit, pull some handles. Let me tell you that cone 6 stoneware has been my saving grace. It is so willing to do whatever the heck you want to do with it. If I were to work in porcelain right now I would be screwed. Talk about a finicky body. I've heard horror stories. Let's just say, bless those who work with it. They're the real MVP. Anyway, so back to handles. I guess I thought that I made nice handles over the past few semesters. Some aren't bad, but some are not good to say the least. They are clunky and were not attached as well as they could have been. I needed to stop and take the time to think about how I could make the piee better. Think craftsmanship from here on out. So, here is a little trip back over the last semester on a few handles that I made. These are the better ones. They are comfy, but a little too blockish to look as flowy as I would like. Now that I know how to make a better looking (and feeling) handle, I think I will be much happier with my mugs! And yes, my mugs have been used for flower arrangements.
