If you're not totally happy with your piece before it's been fired, you're not going to be happy with it afterwards. If anything, you're going to kick yourself and ask WHY DID I LET MYSELF FIRE THAT.
That was me after my first firing of the summer. I was a little out of practice with handles. and I told myself "Oh, they'll be fine after you fire them. Once you get to actually hold the handle it'll be good." Oh boy was I wrong. I feel like I wasted all that clay, and in a sense I did. I probably won't let those pieces see the light of day. All 73 of them. Yep, you read that right. 73 pieces I was not happy with after the firing. That's about half of what was fired. Yikes, right? On the bright side though, I can use them to test glazes and all the different combinations! They are each a half pound each so thankfully it's not a total waste. Live and learn I guess. Oh, and the handles that I did later on in the creation process I kept more of. Thank goodness I have supervision and guidance this summer. Lisa will be my saving grace and show me how to not fudge up anymore!
